Stick-fighters called up to represent Great Briatin
Guba Doce Pares (stick-fighting) students Gordon Rainbird (Bronze medalist) and Norman Charles (Gold Medalist) have been selected to fight for Great Britain after their recent performances in the British Championship and British open WEKAF (World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation) events.
These two events as well as determining the British Champions are qualification rounds to select the British Stick-fighting squad that will be travelling to Wroclaw in Poland to compete against the best fighters in Europe.
The championships run from the 1st to the 3rd July 2011 and there will be a host of nations attending including big squads from Italy, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Holland, the hosts Poland and of course Great Britain.
Norman is the reigning Single Stick European Stick-fighting champion and the reining Double Stick-fighting World champion but has improved his style significantly as is looking forward to putting his new skills to the test.
Whilst for Gordon this will be his first experience at an international tournament and his first (of many I am sure) chance to represent his country and test himself against some of the best fighters in the world.
Well Done to both fighters.
